Over 20 of the clubs up and coming stars set about trying to become the Under 19's Club Champion for 2009. A series of group stages whittled the field down to 8 leading onto the straight knockout stages. The quarter-finals saw Lewis Hambly, Matty Stanborough, Olly Bailey and Kingsley Peck progressing to the semi-finals where after two hard fought matches the line up for the final was set.
Kingsley would take on Olly Bailey in the final being the favourite although he would have to give away 35 point start, which would certainly even up the contest. In the opening frame with Olly obviously showing signs of nerves, Peck managed to claw back the handicap to gain a healthy lead going to the colours and managed to hold on to seal a 1v0 advantage. The second frame would see Peck giving away 45 but again punishing every mistake made by Bailey, Kingsley was able to take the frame to a black ball decider. After a long safety exchange with both players showing respect for each other it was Kingsley who managed to pot an excellent long black to secure the first ever U-19's Snooker Title at the Pot Black.
We hope that this competition has inspired our younger members to continue playing and also give them the confidence to enter other club competitions. A little bit of practice and alot of you will be challenging Kingsley in the near future!
